Today, we are excited to announce the completion of a transaction with Canada Post Corporation through which FiftyOne has acquired the assets of its Borderfree business unit.
As one of the pioneers in cross-border ecommerce almost thirteen years ago, Borderfree has built a robust cross-border business for leading U.S. retailers selling into Canada. Additionally, by being part of the Canada Post family, Borderfree customers have enjoyed access to the most dense and cost-effective Canadian parcel network, through transportation and delivery solutions created and offered by Canada Post.
Today’s acquisition of Borderfree is significant for three main reasons:
- The two leaders in cross-border ecommerce are coming together. The number of Internet Retailer Top 500 retailers transacting across borders through the newly expanded FiftyOne platform vastly outnumbers any other global ecommerce provider by more than 50 brands. This is the largest community of U.S. brands exploring international markets together.
- The network of FiftyOne retailers just got even smarter about Canada. As part of the transaction, the core Borderfree team are all joining FiftyOne, allowing us to leverage the learnings and expertise of Borderfree’s decade-plus of experience in the Canadian market. Borderfree customers joining the FiftyOne community today are assured business continuity, and the entire FiftyOne community of 100+ retailers will benefit from access to deep, on-the-ground Canadian expertise in our new Toronto office. Breadth meets depth.
- Canadian consumers win big. High shipping costs are the single largest factor in Canadian shopping cart abandonment. I’m pleased to tell you that this transaction is only the start of our newly expanded relationship with Canada Post. Over the coming months, we will be rolling out a new Canadian logistics platform truly optimized to the needs and wants of Canadians shopping online. Faster, cheaper, with more choices.
